NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Friday the organization has no plans to deploy ground troops to Syria.
Delivering a speech at the NATO's Defense College in Rome, Stoltenberg said the organization seeks to find a way to end the current stalemate in Syria and help the parties concerned to return to the negotiating table.
On a NATO's Iraqi forces training program, currently taking place in Jordan, the secretary general said the program would be moved to Iraq early next year upon a request by the Iraqi authorities.
He added that NATO should be well prepared for operations as those taking place in Bosnia and Afghanistan, but the most sustainable plans aim to assist countries to improve their troops to be able to respond to threats.
Stoltenberg is currently paying a visit to the Italian capital to mark the 65th anniversary of the establishment of the NATO Defense College (NDC)
