The second Deputy-Speaker of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA), Mr. Larbi Ben Salah Abid, asserted his own commitment, as well as that of all the other NCA members, to respect the people's sovereignty in implementing programmes and making laws, including in the first place the Constitution itself. The commission in charge of penning the draft Constitution should ensure that this document be a true mirror of the political regime to be adopted, he told TAP news agency, on Thursday. He added that the review of the Constitution, as had been the case for the June 1, 1959 Constitution, "is not an easy task, and it should be handled with great care, so as not to open up the path for such manipulations or excesses that the country had experienced in the past, regarding notably the fundamental and democratic principles." It is crucial, he pointed out, to guarantee the constitutionality of the laws through the creation of a permanent constitutional court.
