Seoul - Arab Today
South Korea and the United States share the understanding that their strong alliance must continue irrespective of the change in the U.S. administration, Seoul's foreign ministry, quoted by Yonhap news agency, said Sunday.
The statement came after White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the bilateral alliance remains "strong and durable" also in spite of a massive political scandal that has plunged President Park Geun-hye into the greatest crisis of her political career.
"The remarks by spokesman Earnest puts a focus on the fact that the South Korea-U.S. alliance remains strong regardless of domestic political situations," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
"Following the US presidential election (on Nov. 8), Washington will enter a power transition period, but there is an understanding shared by both nations that the alliance must remain strong after the change in the government," it added.
