South Korea on Monday began live-fire military exercises near the two Koreas’ disputed sea border. The manoeuvres are taking place in the area where four South Koreans were killed in a North Korean artillery attack in 2010. South Korean military asked residents on those islands to go to underground shelters before the exercises started. Ahead of the manoeuvres, a North Korean officer told AP that Pyongyang was ready to defend its territory.
