HE Qatar's Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al-Merri met here on Sunday with Jordan Ryan, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, Assistant Administrator of UNDP and Director of the Bureau for Crisis Prevention at UNDP headquarters in New York. During the meeting, they exchanged views on a number of current issues and topics of common interest and discussed the next plan of action within the framework of the UNDP in the Arab region in the light of developments in the region. The two sides stressed the importance of the rule of law and the need for the competent bodies of the United Nations to play their role towards the region by providing the required technical support, expertise and tools that are necessary for the next phase in the light of the challenges witnessed by the Arab countries. They to discussed an action plan of the Regional Centre of the United Nations for Anti-Corruption, which will be established shortly in Doha as well as programs, courses, and policies to be adopted in the coming period and the extent of their response to the current situation in the region. Earlier, HE the Attorney General had signed with the UN Development Program Memorandum of Understanding to establish a regional centre in Doha to combat corruption to work to attract international activities in this area to the state which aims to develop expertise and transfer of information on best practices in combating corruption in addition to supporting the region''s countries efforts in implementation of the United Nations Convention to combat corruption at all levels. Jordan Ryan also reviewed the activities carried out by his office in countries undergoing conflict and welcomed the cooperation with the Doha Centre in order to achieve common goals sought by the International Organization and the State of Qatar.
