Prosecutor of the Moscow region Alexander Anikin has resigned. Anikin was appointed prosecutor of the Moscow region on April 21, 2011. Prior to that, he had been the prosecutor of the Primorye territory in the Far East and later headed the Prosecutor General’s Office department for control over enforcement of anti-corruption laws for almost four years. At the moment, Alexander Anikin, 53, is having a vacation after which he is going to quit public prosecution bodies. The Prosecutor’s Office of the Moscow region and the Prosecutor General’s Office have refrained from any comments. A new prosecutor of the Moscow region may be appointed this autumn after the regional authorities approve his candidacy.
