Britain's Prince Charles on Monday toured Tanzania on the second day of a visit to the east African nation, including holding talks with President Jakaya Kikwete. The prince, accompanied by his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, attended a colourful reception crowded with hundreds of school children and civil servants waving Tanzanian and British flags. He was received with a military guard of honour in Dar es Salaam and met with Tanzanian soldiers who had served as peacekeepers in Sudan's war-torn Darfur region. "President Kikwete thanked Prince Charles and his wife for accepting the invitation to visit," Tanzania's State House said in a statement. "This reflects good traditional ties between our two countries." The couple will also visit Arusha, in the north of the country, and semi-autonomous Zanzibar, according to the British High Commission. The prince's last official visit to Tanzania was in 1984. His wife has never been here before.
