The Presidential election in the Maldives that would have been held as scheduled on Saturday will not take place, said an official of Elections Commission here Saturday. Fuad Thaufeeq, president of the Elections Commission, told a press conference that at least three weeks, or 21 days will be needed for them to manage new arrangements to hold the election again. He said that after the events that unfolded today, the police now has the power to allow, or deny, the elections commission to continue their election effort.
