The UN Security Council resolution that condemned Israeli settlements is a historic victory for Palestinian rights and a decisive rejection of the occupation, spokesman for the Palestinian government Youssef al Mahmoud said on Saturday.
The move is a pivotal step toward restoring peace in the region through ending the occupation and having an independent Palestinian State, with the occupied East Jerusalem as its capital, the spokesman added.
Besides dealing a blow to the occupation, the resolution underscores the isolation of Israel and world's renunciation of its policies, Mahmoud noted.
He further called for adopting action aimed at putting the resolution into effect swiftly for ending the occupation.
On Friday, the UNSC adopted a resolution demanding an end to settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territories.
