Pakistani law maker on Sunday described United Nations (UN) role as dubious especially against those countries which were not pursuing western agenda. Speaking to IRNA, Deputy Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed agreed with the Iranian stand dismissing the recent international body report on human rights in the country. The UN Special Rapporteur Ahmed Shaheed has alleged in a 21-page report that rights violations have increased in Iran. Iran\'s Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Eshaq Al-e-Habib has dismissed the recent report terming it as “unacceptable and invalid.” Professor Khurshid Ahmed was of the opinion that human rights was a global issue and its violation must be checked everywhere in the world. “We must respect human rights”, said the politician. The Senator believed that West and US were following a policy of double standards on human rights violation. “They have no problem with the human rights violation in those countries which are supporting them”, he pointed out. He said propaganda against Muslim states is not acceptable and unjustified. The legislator added that UN has always target Muslims with harsh polices. To a question the parliamentarian said that UN has lost its credibility and its role was dubious against Muslim countries. Jamaat-e-Islami leader expressing his views said the United Nations has always towed American agenda. “UN is highly influenced by American policies”, he said. He added that UN Security Council has also become a biased body and holding of veto power has damaged the image of the Security Council. The Senator opined that member states of UN must play an effective role in policy making. He said human rights violation must be monitored but it should not be used as a propaganda tool. “One sided propaganda is intolerable”, said Professor Khurshid.
