Former federal Information Minister and prominent leader of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Sherry Rehman was on Wednesday appointed Islamabad’s ambassador to Washington following the exit of Hussain Haqqani due to the memogate scandal. “The prime minister is pleased to appoint Sherry Rehman as the new ambassador to the United States,” said the spokesman for the PM’s office, Akram Shaheedi. Her appointment was welcomed by rights activists and commentators.
