The election observation mission of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) lent a strong support to the Tunisian interim authorities, as well as to all the Tunisian people, who understood very early the real stakes of the October 23, 2011 elections which took place peacefully and with civism, and in a democratic and transparent atmosphere. In a statement released on Monday, the OIC election observation mission that oversaw throughout the day of October 23, 2011 running of the elections notes the large mobilisation, discipline and determination of the Tunisian voters who waited patiently for long hours to fulfil their duty. It also congratulates the Independent Higher Authority for Elections (IHAE) on the practical measures it took to ensure the good progress and success of the vote in total clarity and transparency. The mission also congratulates the Tunisian people, civil society and the political class on the efforts they untiringly exerted during the nine months before these historic elections, which, the press release reads, allowed Tunisia to demonstrate its political maturity and its aspiration to live in peace, democracy and good governance. The OIC election observation mission urges, in conclusion, all active Tunisian players to accept clearly the results of the vote and resolutely look to the future by working to strengthen the foundations of democracy, through governance, rule of law, promotion of justice and equity, real guarantees of peace, security, economic and social development.
