US President Barack Obama plans to announce his choice of Federal Reserve Vice Chairwoman Janet Yellen as the next head of the US Central Bank, the White House reported Tuesday. If confirmed by the Senate, Yellen - who would be the first woman to serve as Federal Reserve chair - would take over after Bernanke\'s term ends in January and continue with the Fed policies established under Bernanke. Obama, to be joined by Yellen and current Fed Chair Ben Bernanke, is expected to announce his candidate in a press conference on Wednesday.
