Baghdad - NINA
Speaker of Parliament, Usama al-Nijaif, discussed with Iran\'s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Jawad Zarif, the situation in the area and means to consolidate bilateral relations.
A statement issued on Sunday, Sep. 15, by the Speaker\'s Office, said that in their meeting the two discussed the situation in the area and dangers of sectarian crisis that sweeps the area, especially Iraq, as well as means to find a peaceful and political solution in Syria.
Nijaifi stressed the necessity that Iran withdraws its unlimited support for keeping Bashar al-Assad in office, rather to allow the Syrian people choose their future, otherwise Assad will continue his previous policies that would make it hard to achieve stability in Syria.
For his part, Iran\'s Foreign Minister demanded other sides not to support armed groups and for Syrian opposition to accept peaceful and political solution to end the crisis through sitting around table for discussion.
Nijaifi arrived in Tehran on Saturday, after visiting Turkey, heading a Parliamentary delegation.
