Foreign interference in the region is the main source of insecurity and regional problems there, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart, Jalal Talabani. Ahmadinejad met his Iraqi counterpart on the Fourth day of his travel to New York. The two officials discussed regional and international developments in the meeting. The Iranian and Iraqi presidents stressed impotence of mutual cooperation to restore regional and international peace and stability. Referring to the historic and cultural relations between the two nations, Ahmadinejad added that Iraqi and Iranian governments and nations are in the same front. The Iraqi president, for his part, thanked to Iranian officials and nation for their help to various Iraqi political groups, both presently and during the Saddam dictatorship. Talebani also praised Tehran contribution to restoration of peace and stability to his war-torn country.
