Islamabad - KUNA
ISLA The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced the official results of the by-polls on Friday and the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) getting the highest number of seats. According to the official results, PML-N has won five seats of National Assembly out 15 and 18 seats in total out of 39 National and Provincial Assemblies seats. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won three seats of National Assembly where Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) managed to gain only two seats of National Assembly. Mutahadi Qaumi Movement (MQM), Awami National Party (ANP) and Pakhtunkwah Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) won one seat of National Assembly each. The ECP has announced to hold re-polls in 18 polling stations of two northern Pakistani constituencies of Nowshera NA-5 and Lakki Marwat NA-27 on the directions of High Court as women were barred from casting their votes. The results of the seats would be announced after the completion of the polls later. The number of registered voters in which the by-polls were held across Pakistan was 8.5 million but the overall turnout of the voters was observed very low across the country due to a general lack of interest in the by-election as the results may not effect the victory of PML-N government formed after May 11 general elections. According to ECP, 201 candidates were contesting for 15 National assembly seats where 321 candidates were contesting for 26 Provincial Assemblies in all four provinces across Pakistan. No incident of major violence was observed across the country during the by-polls except few small clashes between political rivals and an attack on Pakistan Army troops as they were leaving back to the camp after the polling in southern Pakistan.
