UN envoy to Libya Martin Kobler has congratulated the Libyan people on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, calling for an end to divisions.

"I extend my warmest wishes to the people of Libya and the Libyan authorities on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan," Kobler tweeted Monday.

Ramadan, he added, is a period of charity, forgiveness and reconciliation.

"I call on all Libyans to put an end to national divisions and unite for Libya."
