Jordanian Minister of State for Information and Communications Affairs and Spokesman of the Jordanian Government Rakan al-Majali said his country is committed to providing a fair trial for Jordanian citizen Omar Mahmoud Othman known as (Abu Qatada) in the event of his return from Britain. In a press statement today, Majali said concerned official bodies in the government, in collaboration with the British authorities, pursue a decision the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), which prohibits extradition of Abu Qatada to Jordan, contrary to the rule of the British judiciary. The European Court questions that Abu Qatada would have a fair trial in Jordan. He added that the Jordanian government will lodge an objection in writing against the European Court according to the followed procedures, emphasizing the fair trial guarantees in the Kingdom, which were confirmed by the recent constitutional amendments passed last year, pointing out that these amendments prohibit all forms of torture, physical or moral abuse in the territory of Jordan.
