Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Qatari counterpart Khalid bin Mohammad al-Attiyah discussed bilateral ties and mutual cooperation as well as regional developments during a meeting in New York. During the meeting held on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, Zarif reiterated the importance of bilateral relations between Tehran and Doha. Attiyah, for his part, expressed his country’s willingness to cooperate with Tehran and take a new step forward in the relations between the two nations. The two ministers also exchanged views on the latest regional developments. Iran and Qatar have recently augmented efforts to further expand ties and cooperation in all the different political, economic, defense and security fields. The two Persian Gulf littoral states recently signed several protocols to increase mutual cooperation, specially in different areas of security. Zarif is in New York to take part in the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, which opened on September 17.
