Tehran - FNA
Chairman of the Iranian Parliament\'s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi warned that the western countries\' support for Syrian rebels has dire consequences for the entire region. In meeting with the European Parliament (EP)\'s delegation in Tehran on Sunday, Boroujerdi said that the crisis in Syria is the outcome of the wrong policies of the US, Britain and its regional allies, noting that providing the terrorists in Syria with weapons has threatened the peace and security of the entire region. The three-member EP delegation, headed by Hannes Swoboda, arrived in Tehran on Saturday for a four-day visit. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country. Tens of hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes. The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad. Tel Aviv, Washington, Ankara and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots to topple President Bashar al-Assad, who is well known in the world for his anti-Israeli stances.
