A Palestinian analyst said that Iran as the unrivaled power in the region is the main obstacle to the US expansionist policies.Referring to Iran’s key role in the regional developments especially those in Syria, Nicola Nasser said that one major element deterring military interventions by the NATO and West in Syria is the role Iran plays in the region. Nasser, based in the West Bank, stressed that any kind of war against Syria will undoubtedly endanger security of Israel which is easy target for the missiles of Iran, Syria and Hizbollah while the Americans are not willing to initiate a war which will threaten the security and very existence of the Zionist regime. In his article published by Malaysia’s Islamic Party website, he also referred to pulling out of the US troops from Iraq as another deterring factor for any military invasions in Syria as, he believed, an Iraq minus American soldiers will move even closer to Iran and act according to Iranian policies not the NATO and the West in case of any attack against Syria. NATO is now focusing on Syria after conclusion of its operations in Libya in an attempt to dissolve the country by fanning the flame of ethnic differences, he said, stressing that the dominance of the US and the NATO on Syria was something out of reach. The Palestinian analyst continued his article by saying that there were signs indicating efforts by the West, the US in particular, to trigger ethnic and religious disputes in Syria which make it believable that the US and the NATO are seeking a fate like that of the former Yugoslavia for Syria. He pointed out that the internal clashes among various ethnic groups inside the former Yugoslavia utterly resulted in its disintegration and establishment of a new state by the NATO named Serbia that is a strong ally of the West, quite in contrast with the former Yugoslavia. Nasser reiterated that Syria was geographically surrounded by the NATO and its allies, saying the country also shared borders with Israel on the west. He believed that in the new world order engineered by America there is no place for such an independent country like Syria and it had to join the western camp. The Palestinian writer asserted in his article that Syria was different from countries like Egypt and Libya in that it enjoyed very solid infra-structures in political, military, security and economic areas which resulted in consolidation of solidarity and cohesion in the country. He further said there were reports that Turkey and a number of other countries were carrying out measures to enroll volunteers to be dispatched to Syria to fight alongside the rioters against the Syrian government.
