Indian President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil Thursday visited the Indian- controlled Kashmir, officials said.Patil reached Jammu city, the region\'s winter capital Thursday evening and was received by the region\'s Governor N. N. Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other officials.\"The President of India today arrived in Jammu,\" a government spokesman said. \"She was given rousing reception at the Jammu airport by Governor, Chief Minister, other ministers and top civil and police officials.\"Patil is in the city to preside over some functions at the University of Jammu, officials said.Authorities have beefed up security apparatus and intensified frisking in the city a day ahead of this high-profile visit. Police and paramilitary troopers deployed on the roads of Jammu city were seen checking vehicles, frisking pedestrians as a precautionary measure.\"Stringent security arrangements have been made and additional police and paramilitary troopers have been deployed to thwart any militant attack,\" said a police official.
