Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Castro "one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century" saying his country mourned his loss, the BBC reported.
Meanwhile, the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, said: "Heartfelt condolences on sad demise of Cuba's revolutionary leader, former President & friend of India, Fidel Castro."
Earlier on the day, former Cuban president Fidel Castro died at the age of 90.
His brother, Cuba's President Raul Castro announced his death.
Fidel Castro Ruz was born on August 13, 1926, and grew up to become one of the leaders of the movement against Fulgencio Batista. He led a guerrilla force that eventually routed Batista’s army and took over the island in 1959.
