A militant leader in India\'s restive northeast has surrendered to police in the state of Tripura Friday, after crossing from Bangladesh this week, reported local media Saturday. Nayanbasi Jamatiya, known for violence including kidnappings and killings, surrendered to police at Agartala, the state capital of Tripura. The 53-year-old guerrilla chief was chairman of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura set up around 2000 for an independent Tripura state. India\'s northeast, bordering Myanmar and Bangladesh, has dozens of militant groups set up by tribals ethnically different from mainland Indians.
