Hillary Clinton praises Sadiq Khan after Labour MP's landslide victory in London Mayor vote

Hillary Clinton has praised the new mayor of London hailing him a "champion of workers' rights and human rights," the Mirror reported on Saturday.

The US presidential candidate also referred to the fact Sadiq Khan is the "son of a Pakistan cab driver" on Twitter.

The Democrat, wife of former US president Bill Clinton, congratulated Khan on his victory.

She tweeted: "Son of a Pakistani bus driver, champion of workers' rights and human rights, and now Mayor of London. Congrats."

The Labour candidate won with a landslide 1.3million votes with the biggest personal mandate in British political history. He brought some cheer to the biggest electoral test of Jeremy Corbyn's leadership.

In his victory speech after 16 and a half hours of counting, Khan thanked his "amazing" mum and dad, wife and two daughters - saying his bus driver dad would've been proud of him.

And in a swipe at Goldsmith he said: “This election was not without controversy. But I’m proud that London has chosen hope over fear and unity over division.
