The German government planned to secure an additional 500 million euros to cater for the refugees' needs, Deutsche Welle quoted well-placed sources as saying in press statements on Friday.

The government is also ready to take measures to make funds available at German states during the current year in case the number of refugees increased, the sources said.

This proposal was discussed at a meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and the heads of governments of several German states on Thursday, the sources added.
