France\'s Interior Minister Manuel Valls said on Sunday any attack on a mosque would be tantamount to an attack on the republic. Delivering a speech in Paris, Valls criticized latest rise in the number of Islamaphobic incidents in the country. Reminding earlier remarks by French President Francois Holland who had said that Islam was compatible with democracy, Valls said fight against attacks targeting Muslims would continue. Anti-Muslim incidents have risen steadily in recent years in France, home to Europe’s largest Islamic minority, according to the Committee against Islamophobia in France (CCIF), which accuses anti-Muslim rhetoric by far-right politicians.
