Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Palestine Ralph Tarraf stressed on Sunday the importance of achieving permanent peace in the Middle East and establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Addressing a ceremony on the occasion of the 66th Europe Day, Tarraf said the EU seeks to spread democracy and establish a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

He noted that the European Union will continue to support the Palestinian state and end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

The European Union exerts strenuous efforts to ease restrictions imposed on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, Tarraf said.
