EU-Jordan Association Council discusses boosting partnership

The EU-Jordan Association Council, late Monday, discussed ways to enhance partnership and to build on the progress achieved since the previous council's meeting in 2014 for the benefit of both sides.

According to the Petra News Agency, during the meeting, which was held in Brussels, the two sides reviewed and evaluated the progress made in the implementation of the Euro-Jordanian Association Agreement . The meeting also tackled the results of the Brussels Conference on 'Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region', held in April in 2017.

The meeting was chaired by Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission.

During the meeting, which coincides with the 15th anniversary of the entry into force of the Jordan-EU Association agreement, Safadi affirmed the success and the constructive partnership between Jordan and the European Union, expressing the Kingdom's appreciation of the EU support and positive stances towards the region's issues, Petra added.

He also reviewed Jordan's political and economic reform programmes under the leadership of King Abdullah II of Jordan The meeting also touched on the latest regional developments, mainly efforts to achieve peace between Palestinians and Israelis. It also tackled the situation in Syria, including the economic burdens placed on Jordan resulting from hosting Syrian refugees as well as efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in the region.
