Erekat urges Latin America to participate in international efforts to end occupation

Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Saeb Erekat called on the Latin American countries to take part in the international political efforts exerted to end the Israeli occupation and establish a Palestinian independent state on the borders of 1967 with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

He posted the ambassadors of the Latin American countries during their meeting here about the latest political developments and the official Palestinian response by the PLO on the report of the International Quartet Committee for Peace in the Middle East, according to a statement issued by Erekat's office on Thursday.

Erekat sent an official message to number of Latin American countries including Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay where he expressed official protest against the visit of its diplomats in Tel Aviv to Silwan village in Al Quds (East Jerusalem) last week.

He further underscored that this is a flagrant violation to the international law and the United Nations (UN) related resolutions which confirmed that Al Quds is a Palestinian occupied territories and should not under Israeli sovereignty.

Erekat highlighted the resolution of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which stressed that the Israeli practices are illegitimate.
