Vice President of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt, Tahani al-Gebali, has blasted Western powers, including the European Union (EU) of attempting reconciliation with the Muslim Brotherhood. Speaking on Egyptian television, the head of the Defence the Republic movement said the EU understands the current political reality in Egypt, but said Egyptian authorities would never work with an \"illegal organisation\". \"The European Union failed in its bid for national reconciliation. How can there be reconciliation with an illegal organisation [Muslim Brotherhood] ?which preaches a form of terrorism and armed violence against the people and the state. \"The West is ?attempting to stall the Egyptian people, interfere in their internal affairs and is an obstacle to Egypt’s future. Gebali said that Western powers suffered a blow when Arab states such as Saudi ?Arabia, United Arab Emirates and the rest of the Gulf countries declared their support for the recent uprising. \"The Egyptian people are strong, and can ?influence the world. The European countries don\'t want Egypt to prosper, because a stronger Egypt will challenge their strategies and power base in the world.”
