Egyptian Justice Minister Counsellor Adel Abdul Hamid Abdullah, met here on Saturday with the African Union Commission- formed high level African Committee of Wise Men headed by former Malian President Alpha Oumar Konare, the first Chairperson of the African Union Commission, who is currently visiting Cairo. During the meeting, Counsellor Abdul Hamid briefed the committee members on the circumstances that led to the june 30, revolution noting that it came as an extension to the revolution of Jan.25. where the army has extremely esponsive to the demands of the egyptian people . Elaborating the Justice Minister further said that the role of the army was confined to protecting the revolution and realizing the demands of the Egyptian people after the political crisis reached a deadlock, as he so said. The AU high level committee delegation arrived in Cairo earlier Sunday to meet with Egyptian authorities following the country’s suspension from all union activities. The delegation is chaired by Alpha Omar Konare, a former president of Mali who also chaired the African Union Commission from 2003 to 2008, and includes the Prime Minister of Djibouti and a special representative from the office of the Botswanan President. The commission is due to present a report of their findings to AU Chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in the coming weeks.
