Nabil Fahmy, the Egyptian Foreign Minister, asserted today that his country is following with great interest the agreement reached by the United States and Russia on dealing with Syrian chemical weapons, which should pave the way for the desired political solution to the Syrian crisis. The Middle East News Agency, MENA, quoted the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying that Mr. Fahmy expressed his hope that the agreement would open the way for a conference as soon as possible. He called on the Syrian parties that will participate in the conference to work to heal without delay, to save the lives of Syrian citizens and bring regional security and stability in order to achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people in a democratic state that allows all Syrians to participate in building their common future. The Foreign Minister expressed the hope that this step regarding Syrian chemical weapons will help towards the introduction to the Middle East of a zone free of all weapons of mass destruction, nuclear, chemical and biological, without exception or discrimination, and access to regional policies that promote security, stability and economic development, achieving prosperity for the Syrian people and all the peoples of the region.
