Egypt's presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council (PSC) was successful in expressing the interests of the African countries, an Egyptian ambassador said on Monday.
Egypt concluded its presidency of the PSC at the end of September.
"Egypt spotlighted the issues that directly affect the peace and security in Africa with the aim of reaching sustainable solutions to them," Egyptian ambassador in Addis Ababa and Permanent Envoy to the African Union Abu Bakr Hanafy said.
For his part, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi chaired the council’s summit on September 18 in New York on the sidelines of the 71st UN General Assembly meetings.
The summit discussed the latest developments in South Sudan, which asserted Egypt’s keenness to support efforts aiming at achieving peace and stability in the country, Abu Zeid said.
