The Egyptian Foreign Ministry Saturday refuted reports that OIC Secretary General Ekmelludin Ehsan Oglu has met with former president Morsi on Friday. Spokesman Ambassador Badr Abdelati said, in a statement last night, there was no such meeting. He pointed out, however, that Oglu had phoned Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy and expressed his support of and pride in the Egyptian people, his fellow countrymen, and stressed he is following up on all developments. The spokesman reported that Oglu had expressed concern over the escalating violence recently and hoped Egypt reach comprehensive national reconciliation. He added that the minister told the OIC official the country was in the grips of a security situation and the authorities are responding to and handling the situation. He also stressed efforts at such national reconciliation were ongoing with care to include all the political spectrum without excluding anyone, as long as no law is broken or violence opted. Minister Fahmy stressed the Egyptian people are quite capable of realizing such reconciliation, the spokesman said.
