Consultations among Egypt and China on United Nations issues, which have been held recently in Beijing, mainly focused on bilateral cooperation in Security Council and peacekeeping at the international and African levels, Egypt's Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for United Nations Affairs said. 

In statements to MENA, Plenipotentiary Amr Aljowaily said that the two sides reviewed the importance of expanding participation of developing countries in mechanisms of UNSC decision-taking, particularly in drawing up resolutions on African and Arab issues at the agenda of the council.

While tackling UNSC reforms, the Egyptian side highlighted that importance of responding to the unified African stance calling for a representation for Africa in UNSC permanent category along with the non-permanent one, Aljowaily said.

As for regional organization, Aljowaily noted that the Egyptian side reviewed its initiative for institutional consultative mechanisms among the UNSC and the African Union.

Peacekeeping topics at the international and African levels topped the agenda of talks between Cairo and Beijing, Aljowaily stated, adding that the Egyptian delegation has expounded the pioneering role of Egypt in peacekeeping field.
