Police said at least 20 people died and 50 others were injured in a pileup crash in the Philippines village of Santa Catalina. The crash took place at 1 a.m. Saturday on a mountainous, zig-zag stretch of highway. The accident began when a delivery van traveling downhill during a downpour slammed into a Superlines bus. The bus and van both spun out of control and hit other vehicles in the opposite lane, Gulf News reported. As a result, a cargo trailer, a jeep, two other trucks and a passenger bus were also involved in the accident. Some of the victims were ejected from the bus, Gulf News said, and one of the victims was a 1-year-old child. Police said they have detained the driver of the delivery van, Albert Talento-Nava, 48, while they complete an investigation.
