There are no orders from the Egyptian authorities to deny US marine vessels from crossing the Suez Canal, said an Egyptian official here late Thursday.
Speaking to Egyptian television, Chairman and Managing Director of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Admiral Mohab Mohamed Hussien Mameesh said that the authorities did not receive any orders to deny US marine vessels from entering and crossing the Suez Canal.
He said that all vessels, whether commercial or military, were allowed to cross the Suez Canal except for watercrafts belonging to states in which Egypt had declared war on.
SCA is an independent authority having legal personality. SCA was established by the nationalization act signed on July 26th, 1956 by the Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser. The act at the same time nationalized the Suez Canal Company and transferred all its assets and employees to the SCA established by this act.
The head office is located in Ismailia. In Port Said the administration building of the earlier Suez Canal Company is used. Its Board of Directors comprises of 14 individuals, including the Chairman and Managing Director.
