Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday held a phone call with US President-elect Donald Trump.
According to Chinese news agency (Xinhua), the Chinese President told Trump that cooperation was the only choice for relations between the two countries.
"The two sides must strengthen coordination, promote the two countries' economic development and global economic growth, expand all areas of exchange and cooperation, ensure the two countries' people obtain more tangible benefits, and push for better development going forward in China-US relations," China Central Television (CCTV) cited Xi as saying.
CCTV said that Trump told Xi he was willing to work with China to strengthen cooperation and that he believed US-China relations can "definitely achieve greater development".
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China is ready to improve relations with the United States following the election of Donald Trump as the next US president.
"We want to improve our relations under the Trump administration. We are ready to improve US ties through mutual understanding," Wang said during a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara, where he was on an official visit.
He said that China and the US maintain close communications at various levels, adding that developing and deepening China-US relations is a consensus for both the Republican and Democratic parties.
