Outgoing Minister of Interior Marwan Charbel said on Sunday that army units now control checkpoints installed by Hezbollah in Baalbek, noting that the party withdrew its armed men from the city. The minister said during an interview with Voice of Lebanon radio that the incident was an isolated one which escalated into skirmishes, but without any religious or sectarian background. According to Charbel, the army intervened and firmly stopped troublemakers. He stressed that the discord in the city was nipped in the bud. Regarding the sinking of the boat in Indonesia, the minister revealed the presence of three criminal networks, Lebanese, Australian and Indonesian involved in the case. He said that the Lebanese authorities have arrested a member of these networks and are actively pursuing the others.
