Canada has closed its embassy in Syria, where the government has turned its army on citizens trying to oust their president, a Canadian minister said Monday. The last of Canada\'s diplomats have left the embassy in Damascus as the situation in Syria deteriorates, The (Toronto) Globe and Mail reported. \"The embassy\'s closed, effective now,\" Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said. As part of an international effort to get Syrian President Bashar Assad to abandon his post, Canada also has expanded economic sanctions first imposed against Syria in May, targeting the country\'s central bank and Cabinet ministers.
