Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit called on Turkey to respect the Iraqi sovereignty and stop issuing remarks that complicate the situation.

In a statement released on Thursday, Spokesman for the AL chief Mahmoud Afifi said Abul Gheit is following up the diplomatic tension between Iraq and Turkey, citing resolutions issued during the recent Arab summit in Nouakchott and the latest ministerial meeting held on September 8.

The AL chief hoped that the crisis would be solved without any further escalation, Afifi stressed.
