An Amnesty International report released Wednesday maintains that much of Libya is now ruled by armed militias they claim torture detainees loyal to the government of late leader Muammar Gaddafi. The organization reports that such militias have forced the populations of entire neighborhoods and towns into exile. The report quotes detainees of the militias, who say they were bound and suspended in contorted positions; beaten for hours with whips, cables, plastic hoses, metal chains and bars, and given shocks with live wires and other improvised electric weapons.
