Rival Palestinian factions have reached a deal at talks in Qatar, officials say. President Mahmoud Abbas will reportedly head an interim government which will prepare for new elections in the Palestinian Territories. Fatah leader Mr Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal met in Qatar on Sunday, and the talks are continuing on Monday. The negotiations are set to end more than four years of rule by two separate governments. Hamas currently controls the Gaza Strip and while Fatah heads the Western-backed Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.
