Tunisian Minister of Justice Noureddine Bhiri has said he received death threats for not releasing Sami Fehri - who has been arrested on charges of financial corruption at Ettounsiya Television, which he runs. The Minister added that the threats were “not just about Sami Fehri,” claiming that the TV producer is “a front for the remnants of the old regime who are fighting their final battle to evade the international courts that have recently tightened the noose around them in regards to pilfered funds.” The Ennahda Minister added “they will not succeed in stalling the Tunisian people’s march towards accelerating the trial of the corrupt.” TV producer and media figure Fehri has been detained for the past three months in a prison in the Tunisian capital. His company, CACTUS is fighting a legal battle on charges of financial and administrative corruption at Ettounsiya Television. Fehri’s defence has accused the Minister of Justice of breaking the law by not releasing the TV producer despite an order by the highest court in the Tunisian judiciary.
