Luxor - Mohammed Al-Adisi
Mohammed Al-Nadi has demanded the immediate release of his brother, Abd Al-Karim Al-Nadi, who was arrested for the attempted murder of former President Hosni Mubarak and is currently detained in a prison in Addis Ababa.
He also described how his family had not heard from his brother since he was arrested, because of the intransigence of the Ethiopian authorities and their refusal to allow contact between him and his family or his lawyer. They also rejected the Islamic Group\'s appeals for the release of two colleagues who were arrested for the same reason.
After Al-Nadi’s brother left Luxor in 1991, at the age of 19, he has family have never seen him again, and they are imploring current President, Mohamed Morsi, to carry through with the promises that he made during the presidential elections. Among these was the assurance that he would make serious attempts to secure the release of Egyptian prisoners detained abroad.
Al-Nadi himself stated that he has done everything in his power for his brother, but the Ethiopian Embassy in Cairo rejected his request to meet with the Ambassador. They claim only to deal with Government entities and not with individuals.
The Islamic Group, an Egyptian Sunni movement, issued a statement a few days ago, confirming that they will ask the Sudanese government to intervene with the Ethiopian side in order to obtain information about the fate of three of their members. In addition to the aforementioned Abdul Karim, Al-Nadi, El-Sidqi Hafez and Safwat Hassan Abdel-Ghani, are also serving life imprisonment in Ethiopia for their involvement in the assassination attempt of Mubarak in Addis Ababa back in 1995.
