A Jordanian Salafi fighter was killed in Syria by the Syrian forces, as the number of Jordanian extremist fighters has increased in a bid to launch a holy war in Syria. Abdul Rahim Al-Shweish, 21, from Amman died on Monday in a fire exchange in South Syria. Al-Shweish becomes the ninth Jordanian fighter to die in Syria. The leader of the Salafi movement in Jordan, Abi Sayyaf, said that more than 100 fighters have infiltrated Syria this month. More than 250 Jordanian fighters are currently in Syria; and more are expected to go said a Salafi leader Mohamed Al-Tahawi. Islamist fighters have joined the Nasrat Ahl al-Sham Front, a group claiming to be linked to al-Qaeda to fight in Syria. Jordanian officials said that the flow of fighters and weapons to Syria is a direct threat to the Jordanian national security, which forced Amman earlier this month to enhance its military forces on the borders between Jordan and Syria. Earlier this month, Amman aborted a plot, believed to be instigated by al-Qaeda, targeting several Western diplomatic delegations and commercial centres using automatic weapons, explosives and mortar shells which where smuggled into Jordan through Syria, according to reports.
