Baghdad - Jaafar al-Nassrawi
The Iraqi National List has accused the Iraqi the Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki of a lack of transparency. The party, led by Iyad Allawi, demanded an explanation about the armament contract signed recently between the Iraqi government and Russia. In a statement released on Wednesday a spokeswoman for the Iraqi List Maysoon Al-damluji said that the List is shocked by the conflicting positions of the Iraqi government regarding the arms contracts with Russia, which she claim reflects the government’s floundering vision and lack of transparency. According to Al-damluji, the recent weeks have seen conflicting governmental stances on a number of issues of concern to Iraqis, in particularly the armament contract. After one of the officials announced the cancellation of the contract and then another official denied it, citizens are still unaware of the truth behind the contract and the names of those involved. She stressed that the government is obliged to be transparent, and to inform the people of the measures taken against those suspected of corruption without favoring anybody, no matter how close he is to the Prime Minister. A total of 60 legislators have made requests to the House of Representatives calling for the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and the acting Minister of Defense to clarify the truth of the Russian contract.
