Cairo - Akram Ali
Egyptian government officials boycotted the funeral of the head of Egypt’s Jewish community, Carmen Weinstein on Thursday.
The ceremony was attended by the Israeli ambassador in Cairo Yaakov Amitai and Magda Haroun, the new leader of Egypt's Jewish community.
Intense security was deployed on the streets of Cairo ahead of the funeral which had been organised by the Israeli embassy.
Egyptian security officials worked with the representatives from the Israeli embassy to make sure the procession passed without any trouble.
Several young Egyptians paid their respects to the 82-year-old, along with members of the Jewish community.
Jewish leader Haroun thanked the youths for attending Weinstein's funeral, but criticised the Egyptian political leaders for their boycott.
