Egyptian Navy rescues Italian ship north of Marsa Matrouh

The Egyptian Navy managed to rescue an Italian ship with six crew members north of Marsa Matrouh governorate.

In a statement on Thursday, the military spokesman said that the military search and rescue center received a mayday from the Italian ship after it suffered an engine failure some 116 nautical miles north of Marsa Matrouh.

The navy rescue boat coordinated with a nearby Greek ship to swiftly send the necessary assistance to the six trapped crewmen of the Italian ship, the spokesman said.

After rescuing the Italian sailors, the Egyptian navy boat returned to Matrouh Naval Base, the spokesman added.
